Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa's prestigious School of Nursing is seeking two vibrant and engaged Laboratory Technicians to support the Simulation Laboratories used in nursing education at one of Aotearoa New Zealand's top nursing schools on the Wellington and Manawatū campuses. These facilities are integral to preparing students for clinical placements in hospitals and other healthcare settings and are a core component of the Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Clinical Practice programmes.
The positions are 2-year fixed-term (0.5 FTE) appointments, with one position based on the Wellington campus and the other based on the Manawatū campus. Both positions will commence in January 2027.
Te Whiwhinga mahi - The opportunity
These positions will support laboratory activities, ensuring that nursing laboratories are prepared for clinical simulation teaching sessions, clinical nursing skills labs and simulated patient workshops. The laboratory environment must comply with relevant health and safety requirements and other legislative or policy requirements. These positions will provide technical support to academic staff to enable the laboratories to function effectively while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.
The successful applicants will be required to undertake a six-monthly stocktake and procure clinical supplies as required. They will also be required to raise purchase orders for clinical supplies using Massey University technology platforms, with training provided.
They will be required to set up clinical spaces and pack them down before and after teaching laboratory sessions.
These opportunities may suit someone who needs to split their day, setting up clinical labs before teaching sessions in the morning and returning in the afternoon to pack down the labs after the final teaching session. This may suit a postgraduate student with good technical skills who is looking for flexible, part-time work. The pattern of workday hours can be discussed further at interview.
The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of NZD $60,069 - $84,876.
