Cross Country Nurses is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Des Moines, Iowa.

Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 11/23/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Job Summary Medical Surgical Floor position providing postoperative care for patients undergoing orthopedic, breast, and abdominal surgeries. The role includes managing patient needs in a hospital or medical center setting, with responsibilities that may include patient care involving Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and heparin.

Job Details Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week.

Required Qualifications: 24 months of current Medical-Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting; experience with Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and heparin; Electronic medical record (EMR) experience; active Iowa or compact/multistate license at submission; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Preferred Qualifications: Postoperative surgical experience and experience caring for patients following hip, knee, mastectomy, and abdominal surgeries.

Float: Float rotation may be required.

Additional Information: Patient assignments typically include a 1:45 ratio. The role may involve caring for patients following hip and knee procedures, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries. Weekend coverage occurs every other weekend or every third weekend, depending on staffing and census. The role may require working one or two of three upcoming winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years Day, unless the unit is closed. An emotional support canine is present on the unit.
