Care Career is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 11/16/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU) RN – Chesapeake Regional Healthcare Location: Chesapeake, Virginia Contract: 13 weeks, with possible extension Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 shifts Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week; overtime is billed after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts.

Requirements Minimum 2 years of CVICU/CTICU experience. Previous travel experience preferred. Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at submission .

Epic proficiency required. BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; AHA only for BLS and ACLS. Strong neuro experience, including post-brain surgery and EVD/ventriculostomy management.

Required Clinical Skills Post-cardiac surgery care, including CABG patients directly from the OR. IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz/Pulmonary Artery lines, and FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring. Arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and IV starts.

Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips; continuous IV sedation. Ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning. CVVHD/CRRT, IV insulin protocols, dysrhythmia management, and stroke care.

EVD/ICP monitoring, multisystem organ failure, and surgical wound/drain care. Unit Details 8-bed CTICU using a universal-bed model. Adult patients, including post-operative CABG, acute coronary syndrome, NSTEMI, STEMI, and CHF.

Nurses also care for step-down patients who remain in the CTICU until discharge.

Typical ICU patient ratio: 1:1–2. Equipment includes Hemosphere, Quantum, and Accuryn. Schedule and Other Conditions Every other weekend required. Holiday coverage required. Must work Christmas. Floating is required. Block scheduling is not accepted. RTO must be submitted with the profile and is reviewed case by case.
