Details Medical oncology unit within a cancer hospital setting Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30 Cares for adult and geriatric patients with all subtypes of solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer Patients range from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition care Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, though may be 1:5 Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs No set or blocked scheduling offered Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units Uses Epic for computerized charting Requirements Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration BLS certification required ONS Chemo certification preferred Minimum 2 years of acute care experience, current and consistent within the last 12 months, in the specialty applying for Oncology experience preferred but not required Required skills: telemetry interpretation and monitoring, IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, central line blood draws, blood product administration, isolation precautions/PPE Preferred skills: accessing/managing ports, chemotherapy administration, tracheostomy care/management Epic charting experience required Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references not accepted Additional Information Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention Provides true med surg level care in addition to oncology-specific needs Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued Previous travel experience preferred but not required, and first-time travelers are welcome to apply Locals accepted at the same rate Former employees eligible for travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as travelers RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less Candidates must complete Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprinting promptly upon accepting an offer, including lifetime background checks American Traveler Job ID P-762192.
