Locations: Galena, Worton, Chestertown, and/or Rock Hall. The client is willing to work with the candidate for their location preference if possible. This is an adorable town located right on the Chesapeake Bay. Perfect for a traveler! Selling points for the district and the area.
What makes the school a great place to work?
KCPS is a small, collaborative district where SLPs can build strong relationships with students and school teams and make a meaningful impact. The smaller district environment allows for strong communication and collaboration. Would the SLP have a mentor, supervisor, or team support available?
While there is not a formal mentor assigned, the SLP will be part of a dedicated team of SLPs and SLP-As who collaborate, problem-solve, and support one another throughout the school year. They will not be working in isolation. They also will have direct access to our administration team, for ongoing support as needed.
Are there opportunities for professional development or continuing education? SLPs have opportunities to collaborate with other SLPs and share resources, strategies, and expertise across the team. District professional learning opportunities may also be available depending on the assignment.
Are there relocation resources or housing recommendations available? Candidates can explore housing in Chestertown and surrounding communities including Rock Hall, Centreville, Galena, and Betterton, with a variety of rental and home-buying options. I also suggest considering Middletown, DE and Cecil County, MD for housing.
What are some appealing features of the surrounding area?
Chestertown is a charming historic waterfront community with restaurants, shops, arts and cultural activities, Washington College, and easy access to the Chester River. The area also offers boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities. Are there nearby communities where candidates commonly live and commute from?
Yes. Chestertown, Centreville, Rock Hall, Galena, and Betterton are all nearby options. Many people also choose to live in Middletown, Delaware, which offers additional housing, dining, shopping, and community amenities.
Easton and other Eastern Shore communities are also options for those willing to commute. Is there anything else you recommend we highlight to candidates? KCPS offers the opportunity to do meaningful school-based work as part of a collaborative SLP team, while living in or near a close-knit Eastern Shore community.
The area offers a slower pace of life, access to the water and outdoor recreation, and proximity to larger communities for additional shopping, dining, and entertainment.
